The Royal Challengers Bengaluru cricket franchise, available in the Indian Premier league now has a new owner. Yes, recently the RCB franchise was put on sale by the previous owners, and the franchise is actively looking for a new owner. After a successful deal with BCCI and the IPL management, RCB now has a new owner. A consortium comprising Aditya Birla Group, The Times of India Group, Bolt Ventures, and Blackstone has agreed to a deal to purchase the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise with 100% equity. The Aditya Birla Group led the Consortium and was one of the major company that was part of the overall deal.

Individuals included in the deal 

The consortium includes multiple personalities around the world who have been influential in the market. These big personalities are constantly appearing in the headlines and was apart of multiple major deals. One of the most influential figures in the consortium includes the Aditya Birla Group of India, which acquired the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise on Tuesday, along with other partners. The consortium includes billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla-Aditya Birla Group, The Times of India Group, David Blitzer’s Bolt Ventures, and US-based investment firm Blackstone. 

According to the information, the acquisition deal of the Royal Challengers Bangalore was finalised at a total of 1.78 billion dollars, which is more than INR 16000 crores in rupees. The deal was agreed with the United Spirits Limited (USL), a subsidiary of UK-Diageo Pic to acquire the 100% stake of RCB.  

Aryaman Vikram Birla, the key figure of the consortium 

One of the major news items during the acquisition of Royal Challengers Bengaluru is the availability of Aryaman Vikram Birla, the director of Aditya Birla Group. Aryaman Vikram Birla is selected as the chairman of the franchise, while Satyan Gajawani of The Times of India Group A will serve as a vice chairman of the franchise. 

After the successful conclusion of the deal, the chairman of Aditya Birla Group Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, stated that “Over the past 2 decades, IPL has developed into a global Sporting powerhouse that changed the face of Indian cricket by creating enormous value for India. RCB is one of the most compelling franchises in IPL, and it allows the Aditya Birla Group to extend its legacy of institution-building into the arena of global sport. We are delighted to become a part of the RCB franchise, and we are committed to further building this extraordinary legacy”. 

The most expensive franchise in IPL 

After the success of the deal Royal Challengers Bengaluru has now become one of the most expensive franchise told in IPL history so far. Multiple individuals were interested in taking the 100% stakes of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru before the conclusion of the deal. Some of the names who are interested in acquiring RCB include Adar Poonawalla, Ranjan Pai of Manipal hospitals, private equity firms EQT, TPG, and Temasek, and the Glazer family, which owns Manchester United. Many big name is were involved in the acquisition of RCB before the deal. 

David Blitzers, the founder of Bolt Ventures, said that “ RCB has a world-class fan base and IPL is one of the most potentially growing stories.” 

The Legacy of RCB 

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru is one of the fan favourite franchises available in IPL. During the start of IPL in 2008, the Bengaluru team was the second most expensive team at that time, which was owned by Vijay Mallya. Vijay Mallya owned the United Breweries Group, and the group acquired the RCB franchise in 2008 with a total amount of 111.6 million US dollars. Since the start, RCB has been one of the favourite teams because it includes multiple famous players from around the world, and it is always capable of giving exciting match performances.

The popularity of RCB skyrocketed in 2013 when Virat Kohli took over the captaincy. Virat Kohli has always been the face of RCB, and many fans support RCB because of him. Multiple other individuals were also significant in the franchise, including Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. RCB also won the IPL Championship in 2025 and put up a full stop on their trophy drought.RCB is also on the women's IPL team, which also won the WIPL. The consortium states that the alliance will control both teams of IPL and WIPL.
