Recently, shocking news revealed that the Board of Control of cricket in India (BCCI) has put a two-year ban on a certain England cricketer. According to the recent news, England cricketer Ben Duckett has faced a two-year ban from IPL due to breaking out of the tournament without any valid reason. This English player was a part of the Delhi Capitals franchise in IPL 2026. The franchise allowed him to rediscover his current form and shift his momentum from test cricket to T20. In the auction, Ben Duckett was picked by Delhi Capitals for a total of 2 crore or £ 160,0000.

Ben Duckett in IPL

Ben Duckett is a batsman from England who has been an active part of England's test line-up. Despite going through a very poor form in Test cricket, he was part of the Ashes series. The individual was going through difficulty and was dropped from the ODI and T20 squad for his Nation. During the IPL auction in December 2025, he was picked up by Delhi Capitals for a total amount of INR 2 crore. Ben Duckett never played a single game of IPL and wasn't even picked up by any team.

After being picked by the Delhi Capitals, he was not guaranteed a position in the playing 11 because of the competition from Pathun Nisanka for an overseas spot. He was selected by the team to be a backup option for the overseas spot.

Reasons for withdrawing from IPL

Ben Duckett withdrew from IPL 2026 at the last moment, and the decision was full of consequences for him. According to his statement to the Telegraph, he wanted to focus on international cricket and try his best to live up to the Expectations of his fans sitting in England. He said, “ I spent a lot of time away from home in different places, and it felt like the best thing for me to do to be ready to play for England is to be here right now, at home, and refresh my body and mind. More importantly, I want to play four-day cricket for Nottingham and try to find the form I had last summer.”

Ben Duckett further said, “ I could have gone to the IPL, spent time on the bench, then rushed back into the test summer. I wouldn't have time to process the winter, learn from mistakes, and go back to the drawing board with Notts”. His statement and mindset are clear, he wants to play all three formats for the England team and give his 100% for his Nation. Harry Brook was another name from the England side who pulled out of IPL at the last moment, and he will also have to face the consequences alongside his teammate Ben Duckett.

Consequences faced by Ben Duckett

Despite his dedication towards his Nation Ben Duckett will have to face multiple consequences by opting out of the IPL 2026 at the last moment. According to the rule book, if any player withdraws from IPL at the last moment after the auction, then he will have to face a ban of a total of 2 years. Now, after his withdrawal, Ben Duckett cannot play or participate in IPL auctions for IPL 2027 and 2028.

He was picked up by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2 crore; however, he was never paid, so he doesn't have to pay back the amount he was picked up for. After his withdrawal from IPL, Ben Duckett said, “I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone at Delhi. I was genuinely very excited about the opportunity to represent the franchise, and I fully appreciate the time and planning that goes into building a squad. I am very sorry for any disruption caused by my decision”. He concluded by saying that the decision was very difficult for him, and the decision was made by thinking a lot without any rush.

Conclusion

After the withdrawal of Ben Duckett, and before hand was Harry Brook, Delhi capital is now under pressure because they will now have to look out for 2 overseas players. Although Ben Duckett was a backup for the opener, he was still a reliable player and could step up when the team wanted him.
